How to Protect Your Roblox Account: 2-Step Verification, the Old PIN and Common Scams
The single best thing you can do for a Roblox account is turn on 2-Step Verification with an authenticator app. Roblox recommends that option over email. The account PIN many older guides mention no longer exists: Roblox replaced it with parent accounts and points everyone else to 2-Step Verification.
Most stolen accounts are not "hacked" in the movie sense. The owner typed a password into the wrong page, pasted something they were told to paste, or used the same password everywhere. Every step below closes one of those doors.
Step 1: add and verify an email
You cannot turn on 2-Step Verification without a verified email on the account. The email is also how you reset a forgotten password and how Support checks that you are the owner. Use your own address or a parent's. Never someone else's: whoever controls that inbox receives the password reset links.
Step 2: turn on 2-Step Verification
- Log in and open Settings. On a browser it is the gear icon at the top right. In the mobile app, tap the three dots, then the gear.
- Go to the Security tab.
- Turn on the 2-Step Verification method you want and follow the on-screen steps.
| Method | How it works | Catch |
|---|---|---|
| Authenticator app | A code from Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, Duo or Authy | Recommended by Roblox; also asked on email-code logins |
| A code sent to your verified inbox at each password login | Skipped if you log in with an email code or a passkey | |
| Security key | A physical key (like a YubiKey) or your phone's fingerprint or face unlock | Requires the authenticator app to be on as a backup |
Why the authenticator over email? If someone gets into your email, email codes protect nothing. An authenticator lives on your phone, so a stolen password plus a stolen inbox still isn't enough.
What happened to the account PIN?
For years, Roblox had a PIN that locked account settings. Roblox's help center now says it replaced the parent PIN with Roblox accounts that have parent privileges: a parent links their own account to the child's and manages controls from their device. For anyone who wants an extra layer of security, the same page points to 2-Step Verification. If a guide tells you to "set your PIN", it is out of date.
The scams that take most accounts
- Free Robux. Roblox is blunt about it: any offer of free Robux, subscriptions or valuable items is a scam. Generators, "claim" sites and games that promise them all end at a login form or a bad download.
- "Paste this to get the item." A message tells you to copy text into your browser or run a file. The goal is your session cookie. Roblox lists cookies next to passwords as things you never share.
- Fake staff. Someone says they are a Roblox admin and needs your password or 2SV code to "verify" you. Roblox employees never ask for either.
- Deals outside the Trade window. A trade arranged on Discord or paid outside Roblox is not protected. If the other person backs out, Support cannot recover anything.
- Fake tools. "Executors", "script injectors" and mods from random sites that carry keyloggers. Roblox's own help page warns that many exploits are scams to get you to download malware.
A simple rule covers most of that list. Only type your Roblox password on roblox.com or in the official app. Real Roblox promotions show up on the Roblox blog, in your Notifications or as a banner on the site. If you found the offer anywhere else, treat it as fake.

Small habits that matter
- Use a password you use nowhere else. A leak on some other site should not open your Roblox account.
- Log out on shared computers at school or a friend's house.
- Check "Where you're logged in" in the Security tab once in a while. It lists each session with device, approximate location and last activity.
- If you test scripts, do it on an alternate account, never on the one with your Robux and limiteds. Scripts break the Roblox Terms of Use and can get an account banned.
If someone already got in
- Scan your computer or phone and remove any download or browser extension you do not trust. Otherwise the thief gets back in.
- Reset your password from a clean device.
- In the Security tab, use "Log Out of All Other Sessions" and turn on 2-Step Verification.
- If you cannot log in, contact Roblox Support from the first email added to the account or the billing email of the first purchase.
- Lost items or Robux? Roblox only helps in limited cases, and you must contact them within 30 days of the compromise.
