Fisch Mariana's Awakening: What the Update Adds and How to Progress

Mariana's Awakening (also listed as The Obsidian Trench) arrived in Fisch on September 19, 2026. It adds a new layer under Mariana's Veil, five quest NPCs, six Gauntlets, 22 fish, a boss called Skolopendra and a rod you can only buy after beating it. The path starts with an NPC named Vaelor in Roslit Bay.

The game's own Roblox page now shows the title "Fisch [MARIANA]". Below is the route in the order the quests unlock, plus the two mechanics that stop most players: Trench Suppression and the Veiled Charybdis catches.

Quick refresher: how fishing works

If you're coming back after a break, the basics haven't changed. You cast a bobber, wait for a bite, then reel in by following the blue line. The official page counts over 400,000 possible fish variations once sizes and mutations are added. Mutations are why the Gauntlets matter so much in this update.

Step 1: Vaelor and the glowing veins

Everything opens in Roslit Bay. Talk to Vaelor, who wants someone to look into the glowing mineral veins that started showing up across Mariana's Veil. That conversation sends you to the five existing layers of the Veil, one descendant per layer.

Step 2: the five descendant quests

Each descendant quest rewards a Gauntlet. The update ships six in total: Abyssal, Calm, Challenger's, Veiled, Volcanic and Mariana's. They are fishing tools, not weapons. Depending on the one you equip, a Gauntlet can raise your mutation chance, freeze a fish, speed up reel progress or show a fish's mutation before you land it.

Step 3: the Crevice Wall and the Abyss Gate

With the five quests done, go to the Crevice Wall. It has riddles written on it. Solving them tells you how to light five gems, one tied to each layer. Once all five are lit, the Abyss Gate opens and you can swim down into the Obsidian Trench.

Trench Suppression

The moment you enter, Trench Suppression applies to you. It is an environmental debuff that works in levels. Around the trench there are glowing white crystals. Touching one removes suppression levels for a while.

So plan your fishing spots around the crystals. Pick a spot with a crystal close by, fish until the debuff starts to hurt, reset, repeat. Swimming across the trench with full suppression is how most runs go wrong.

Veiled Charybdis and Skolopendra

The boss does not have a summon item. You wake it up by fishing. Catch a Veiled Charybdis, which triggers a special reeling minigame with whirlpools that pull at your line. After four to six successful catches, the trench crystals turn deep red. That is the signal: Skolopendra is awake, and the fight is another fishing minigame with its own effects.

1. Fish next to a white crystal so suppression stays low during the Charybdis catches.
2. Watch the whirlpools while reeling. Losing control of the rod is the usual way a catch fails.
3. When the crystals go red, stop and get ready. Do not start the fight with high suppression.

The Chasm-Stalker Rod

Beat Skolopendra and finish the trench, and the Chasm-Stalker Rod becomes available to buy. It comes with new mutations, strong passives and a streak system that no older rod has. It is the reward the whole questline is built around, so most players will want it before FischFright 3, the Halloween event the game page lists for October.

The 22 new fish

Twelve species live in the Obsidian Trench, two of them hidden catches. Named ones include the Obsidian Gaveltooth and the Basalt Behemoth. The other ten are spread through the older layers of Mariana's Veil: the Charred Coelacanth, the Glacial Gulper and the Wraith-Whisper Ray among them. If you are filling the bestiary, those ten are the easy half, since you can catch them while doing the descendant quests.

What the video shows

The MatLumber video from September 24 runs Meng Hub, a no-key script, in Fisch with Delta. On screen you see Auto Fish, Auto Cast, Auto Shake and Auto Reel, the shop and quest tabs, and a teleport to The Shady Bazaar. The description notes that the video covers the script, not the October event.
